Salisbury is a great day trip from London as it is the nearest rail station to Stonehenge. Stonehenge is an attraction that captures the imagination of people the world over. The mystery is very appealing. Having been built almost two thousand years BC, it still keeps many things secret. How was it used or built? This gives much to contemplate when visiting the site. Stonehenge is now secured by a fence to protect it from wear and vandalism.

Lesser known but adding to the mystique is additional sites Avebury and Silbury Hill. Avebury has a lot of similarity and ties to Stonehenge, with stones erected for purposes that are lost in prehistoric Britain. Like Avebury, Silbury Hill is a man-made mound that was also built in prehistoric Britain. Taking this day trip is wonderful idea.
